Job Responsibilities

Lead and coordinate within R&D worldwide multifunctional team in project design and execution, participate in Global Chemical Research programs, interface with ExxonMobil technology / marketing / manufacturing organizations

Coach / mentor to junior and temporary staff when appropriate to ensure effective performance management

Apply advanced polymer and materials science to create ideas and to propose development programs for innovation in the fields of polymer physics targeted at achieving competitive advantage, thereby contributing to strategic business development opportunities

Present and document research results, observe and evaluate scientific trends

Keep abreast of relevant competitive IP literature in order to direct own research and to develop a strategically aligned intellectual property portfolio in the field of polymer science and write appropriate invention reports

Develop strong contacts with academia and professional societies

Provide resolution of relevant non-routine technical problems

General Qualifications

Fully compliant with ExxonMobil Safety/Health/Environmental requirements

Strictly adhere to ExxonMobil Global Product Quality ManagementSystem

Responsible for proposing and writing reports, not only for internal use, but for eventual publication and/ or presentation at relevant conferences

Excellent communication skills as well as English in spoken and written form

Capable of independent laboratory work and apply scientific method

Ability to work in a dynamic, multicultural and team environment, strong organizational skills

Be prepared to travel globally and work across international boundaries

Fully support and participate in ExxonMobil Safety, Integrity, and Quality processes

Enthusiastic, team player, "can-do" attitude, flexible and willing to learn

Professional Skills / Requirements

Education –Ph.D. in Polymer Physics, Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Polymer, Polymer Engineering, Polymer Structure, Polymer Mechanics, Material Chemistry

Professional experience in one of the following areas is highly preferable:

o Structure-property relationship of polyolefin science, especially catalyst design, polymerization process, post modification.

o Thermoplastic vulcanite (TPV) or Dynamically Vulcanized Alloys (DVA) involving the processing, curing and fundamental property understanding.

o Structure-property relationship of butyl & rubber composites, including polymer synthesis, structure-performance modeling, additives, curing and compounding process.

Strong publication and patent records. Excellent presentation skills.

Excellent communication skills as well as English in spoken and written form

Capable of independent laboratory work and scientific method, familiar with general characterization equipment.

Ability to work in a dynamic, multicultural and team environment, strong organizational skills

Be prepared to travel globally and work across international boundaries
