Purpose of the Position:

Designs, develops and implements tests, result evaluations and rework for all product components in support of delivery of quality software products that meet customer specifications. Implements and maintains software programs for computer-based systems. Works independently and with a team on projects of moderate complexity; continues to learn more complex aspects within a single area of specialization or functionality.
Major Duties and Responsibilities:

Technical
Designs, implements, documents and maintains product components.
Uses established software engineering concepts, principles and processes to achieve committee results.
Implements, executes and evaluates unit tests for product components.
Assists in development and implementation of test related activities for assigned product components.
Performs functional test development from test specifications.
Performs test execution and maintenance, analysis, and reporting for assigned features.
Reviews user documentation.
Participates in test installation cycle.
Works to assigned schedules and communicates issues that impede progress early in work cycle. Provides input into work plans for assigned tasks.

Performs other related duties as assigned.

Planning
Determines the time estimates and work plan necessary to achieve the goals for building, testing and maintaining the product.
Executes the work plan, providing intermediate progress and exception reports to appropriate managers and project leaders.
Achieves the committed results within the time frame, functionality, performance and quality objectives established for the project.

Education and Related Experience:

BS/BSCS & 1-3 years or MS/MSCS & 0-2 years

Required Technical Skills: Proficient in C, C , Java, or 4GL.
Familiarity with one fo the following relational database systems: Sybase, Oracle, Informix, or other RDBMS.
Proficient in SQL.

Software Engineers should have worked on the design and implementation of products for use in commercial software development situations.
One year developing Microsoft Windows, Macintosh, OS/2 PM, or Unix based applications.

Experience in functional test or data base application development domain.
A background in object oriented analysis design and development is a significant advantage with either Java or C . Experience with Perl, Awk, Unix, Shell, Tcl are also an advantage.

Proficiency in a RAD Tool such as PowerBuilder or PowerJ.
