ATC Studios is a centralized design team that supports a wide range of projects within Microsoft’s Advanced Technology Center (ATC), from cutting-edge incubation work to the latest versions of established Microsoft products to genre-defying products for the China market. ATC Studios is a collaborative group of individuals representing interaction design, ethnography, visual design, user research and prototyping engineering – all focused on defining, designing and delivering great experiences for most Microsoft products.

You should have a gifted eye for design and details, along with strong work practices and production discipline. You must have a proven record of designing and delivering innovative solutions on time for demanding and complex interaction/visual problems. While you do not need experience designing interfaces and/or menu systems, you should have a firm understanding of how they work and what makes them work well. You should have excellent visual and technical problem-solving skills and be able to multi-task and work with minimal supervision.

You must be able to work independently to create and explore concepts from sketches to interactive mock-ups through UI flows and visual prototypes (Visio, HTML, WPF, Flash) for review and refinement before helping to implement in production. Your responsibilities will be a mix of design exploration and implementations (production) with the ability to work within in wide array of visual styles, including a style set by another artist/art director.

Qualifications
*Minimum 2-3 years of relevant work experience in software and/or web design.

*Online portfolio showcasing your outstanding software, web and visual design skills (thorough understanding of information architecture, typography, color theory, and layout).

*Strategic thinking and problem solving skills with the ability to create elegant and effective design solutions that balance business needs, user needs, interdisciplinary team work and on time delivery.

*Must have excellent verbal and written communication and presentation skills with the ability to articulate ideas through high fidelity prototypes.

*Experience applying user-centered design methods and user research throughout the design process.

*Industry experience in developing software products for large markets is preferred.

* Proficient to Expert knowledge of major design, web, operating system and business software (e.g. WPF/Expressions, Flash, HTML, Photoshop, Illustrator, Windows, Office)
