POSITION OVERVIEW:

MSCI ESG Research, part of MSCI Inc, is seeking internship candidates for summer 2012 in Beijing within its ESG Ratings team to assist in the research expansion of our emerging market coverage, particularly of public listed Korean companies. An ESG Ratings intern is expected to have fluent Korean and English skills and be interested in research on sustainability and investment themes. The intern will research information about Korean companies’ environmental, social, and governance performance, as well as traditional financial risk, using a variety of interesting sources including non-governmental organizations, annual reports, proxy statements, corporate social responsibility reports, sustainability reports, equity research reports, news publications, research studies, and engagement with the companies themselves if necessary.

This is an exciting role providing the opportunity to be involved in the integration of sustainability themes into investment research for fast growing Asian companies. We are offering the internship role commencing from June 2012 to October 2012.

RESPONSIBLITIES:

· Searching for, procuring, and processing information about Korean companies using multiple methods, techniques and sources.

· Working with many different types of information sources (i.e. lengthy annual reports, websites, quantitative data feeds, web crawlers), types of information (i.e. quantitative data, key performance indicators, prose narratives), topics or subject matters (i.e. traditional financial risk, corporate governance, and sustainability) and types of analysis (i.e. rules-based, subjective analysis, written summaries).

· Capturing and transforming that raw data into meaningful information in English.

· Produce ESG Ratings and company profiles written in English.

· Present research findings to the relevant teams.

· Produce research support to senior analysts if required.

DESIRED EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS:

· Must be a P.R.China passport holder

· Fluent Korean language capabilities particularly in reading

· Fluent spoken and written English skills

· Students who major in Korean (and second major in English) are strongly encouraged to apply

· Strong background in data collection and research analysis

· General awareness of current affairs in Korea and strong interest in news and market search

· Can work under pressure

· Efficient team player and can also work independently without constant supervision

· Advanced degree in related field preferred (masters or PhD) but not required

· Previous internship experience in the sustainability field is not required but preferred:

o in ESG Research or corporate social responsibility industries, or

o relevant financial services experience that includes exposure to ESG investment products, or

o Relevant public policy or academic or NGO experience
