Responsible business practice at IMI has led to the company being selected as a member of the 2008 Dow Jones Sustainability Index (DJSI). 1995 was a milestone year which marked IMI’s initial foray into the Chinese market. Through one of its flagship companies – CCI (Control Components Inc), belonging to its Severe Service business group; IMI established a joint venture (JV) factory in partnership with Shanghai Power Electric Co., Ltd, to cater specifically to the growing demands and requirements of China’s thermal power, nuclear power and oil and gas industries. Its clientele comprises some of China’s largest and most sought-after energy conglomerates including the likes of China National Petroleum Corporation (CNPC), China National Offshore Oil Corporation (CNOOC) and China Petrochemical Corporation (SINOPEC). Subsequently, IMI expanded its presence by introducing its Fluid Power, Beverage Dispense and Indoor Climate businesses in 1996, 1997 and 2003 respectively. Its Fluid Power business focuses on the commercial vehicles, medical, rail, printing and packing industries and is supported by a team of dedicated and innovative local research engineers. IMI’s Beverage Dispense business also has a very significant presence in China, having recently expanded its existing production facility in Tianjin from 4,000sqm to 12,000sqm. Via its flagship company – Cornelius, the Beverage Dispense business supplies the world’s leading beverage brand owners and major retailers with solutions that combine beverage merchandising and dispensing in a total package. A global leader in delivering still and carbonated beverage dispensing solutions, its clientele include Coca-Cola, Pepsi, McDonald’s and Yum. With regards to its Indoor Climate business, IMI relocated its Asia-Pacific Headquarters from Singapore to Shanghai and progressed further to establish its Asia Pacific Technical Centre, supported by a modern and fully-equipped laboratory. The Indoor Climate business designs and delivers products and services that ensure problem-free, energy-efficient and cost-effective heating, ventilation and air-conditioning (HVAC) systems for indoor environment and high-rise residential and commercial buildings. To date, IMI’s businesses in China employs close to 800 people in total. We want to be a business whose name is recognised in China which will enable us to attract the best talent so to achieve our goal of an average return on revenue of 15%.
