Job Summary
The primary responsibility of this position is to manage the technical aspects of the "sales and applications support process"irected primarily at customers whose primary business involves the development of software to be used in "controls applications." The AE will spend most of their time focused on applying Simulink and MATLAB capabilities to the development of controls applications in the automotive and other related industries and will be responsible for demonstrating their knowledge during sales meetings, conference calls, public seminars, and in the development of complex product demonstrations. This position also requires that the AE is able to work with existing "power users" to answer their questions and servies for them.
Responsibilities
Providing technical pre-sales support and guidance to The MathWorks China Sales organization. Working as a team, the Application Engineer assists the salesperson first, in understanding and synthesizing customer requirements, then explaining the features and capabilities of our products relative to their specific needs.
Preparing and delivering product presentations to customers and prospects. These are delivered during customer meetings and during marketing seminars where large audiences exist. These "product-centric" sessions include, but are not limited to live MATLAB, Simulink, and Stateflow software demonstrations and associated PowerPoint slide presentations.
Developing demonstration programs, application examples, and simulation models. These are generally used as support for a sales call or to make clear a solution relative to an application support assignment.
Analyzing users' problems to determine and implement the best computational approach. Occasionally, customers who are preparing to acquire software require guidance on how to use evaluation products. This requires assisting customers with the use of MATLAB/Simulink/Stateflow programs and models to solve specific problems. Strong preference is placed on knowledge and skills in areas such as systems modeling and simulation, embedded systems development and C programming, m-file programming, rapid prototyping and/or hardware in the loop testing, real-time and non-real-time simulations, familiarity with targeting real time operating systems, etc.
Accountability of project quality, timing and effort including the submission of trip or engagement reports as well as weekly activity reports.
Qualifications
This person should possess an advanced Engineering degree and have experience in applying CAE tools to real-world engineering problems. Knowledge of MATLAB/Simulink/Stateflow or similar products is essential. Specialization in modeling & simulation, control systems, and experience in the automotive or a closely related industry is required.
The candidate should have a demonstrated ability to develop mathematical models, perform computational analysis, and simulation tasks and be able to discuss how our products are changing the systems design process in a fundamental way. Very strong knowledge of (and enthusiasm for!) model based design process and its implications for systems design is essential. A qualified candidate will be able to effectively communicate his/her passion for The MathWorks software to our customers. Candidates should be interested in working directly with customers to help them understand how to apply our products to their problems. The position requires proficiency in the delivery of presentations and excellent verbal and written communication skills (English/Chinese).
Travel is generally throughout China specific to various seminars, customer visits, etc. The candidate should expect to travel about 25-50% of the time with trips.
